Nerian Karmin2 is the latest revision of our successful Karmin stereo camera. Karmin2 has been specifically designed for easy integration with our SceneScan stereo vision sensor. In combination with SceneScan, Karmin2 becomes a fully featured 3D depth camera that acquires accurate range measurements, even in bright light conditions and over long distances.
SceneScan is Nerian’s latest 3D depth sensing solution. SceneScan relies on stereo vision and hardware-accelerated image processing to gain a 3D understanding of an observed area. SceneScan connects to Karmin2 stereocamera or to two conventional USB3 Vision industrial cameras. The camera images are processed in real-time using a powerful FPGA and Nerian state-of-the-art stereo matching algorithm. By choosing a suitable camera setup, very different measurement ranges can be covered. This renders SceneScan the most flexible 3D depth sensing solution on the market.
Karmin2 is available in two different stereo baseline distances: 10 and 25 cm. The 10 cm model is ideal for close range depth measurements, with measurement distances as low as 0.5 m. The 25 cm model, on the other hand, is intended for long range stereo vision. In this case, the wider baseline facilitates a superior depth resolution at higher distances.
A large selection of lenses is available for each version, which allows for a fine-grained control of the field-of-view. With our standard lenses, field-of-views between 25° and 62° are possible. Even wider or narrower angles can be achieved with special lenses if the application requires so. This makes Karmin2 the most configurable 3D depth camera on the market.
Karmin2 is machined from a solid, massive piece of aluminum, which provides excellent mechanical stability and ensures a long-lasting calibration. Its two image sensors have a native resolution of 1600 × 1200 pixels, but can also be operated at 800 × 592 pixels at an increased frame rate.
Both cameras are triggered though an external trigger signal, which provides excellent synchronization. The trigger signal can be generated by SceneScan or another signal generator. An accurate synchronization is imperative when acquiring depth measurements of moving objects.

SceneScan Pro has significantly more computational power when compared to SceneScan. This means that SceneScan Pro can process a given input stereo image much faster than SceneScan. Thanks to the additional processing power, SceneScan Pro is also capable of processing higher image resolutions and larger disparity ranges, which leads to more accurate measurements.
